The four components of our Comprehensive
School Counseling Program include:
|
Curriculum
Our
comprehensive school counseling program provides curriculum in a
developmental manner to all students in 5th and 6th grades. The purpose
is to increase student awareness, skill development, and an
understanding of the skills needed to be successful in every day life.
The focus is on Academic, Personal/Social, and Career Develepment.
Topics include character education, violence prevention, problem solving
skills, social skills, self-awareness and individual differences, study
skills, alcohol, tobacco and other drug awareness and prevention,
protective behaviors, safety, and career awareness. Our curriculum is
based on the Wisconsin School Counseling and the American School
Counseling Association Standards.
Individual Student Planning
Our
comprehensive school counseling program assists students in planning
and becoming more aware of their educational, personal, and career
development through classroom lessons, small group and individual
counseling. This includes exploring the connection between career
opportunities and personal interests, skills, and abilities. This also
includes the development of study skills and providing experiences to
promote life-long learning.
Responsive Services
Our
comprehensive school counseling program addresses the immediate
concerns of students through individual and small group counseling,
consultation, and referral. Some areas addressed might include academic
concerns, attendance, frienship issues, grief or loss, coping with
stress or anxiety, and family issues.
System Support
Our
school counselors work together with all school personnel to ensure the
success of all students. This might consist of consultation with
teachers, social workers, the principal, nurse, or school psychologist
to help support a student. Other areas addressed include parent
education, staff development, school improvement planning, professional
development, community outreach, and public relations.
